The judicial branch of the CH government is located in Lausanne and is
elected by parliament every six years. A lot of these judges have
political party loyalties, but some are independent. Most serve on a
long term basis.

Recently, a judge who is acknowledged to be a superior legal mind but
not the best at people skills got into trouble. While in the halls of
justice, he ran into a reporter for a Zuerich newspaper with whom he
has had some differences. The judge spat at the reporter. He missed and
hit a clerk.

Well, he might as well have dropped trou and mooned the guy to hear
what the papers have to say. Calls for resignation were spurned by the
judge, even when they came from his fellow judges. The parliament set
up an investigation board. This board happens to be chaired by a member
of parliament who some years ago spent some time in this judge's court
because of alleged tax problems. The man was apparently exonerated. It
remains to be seen if all has been forgiven and forgotten.

I sort of like the six year terms for supreme courts.
