In a turn of events, SB 143, Printer's No. 1688 requiring school
districts to build capacity to involve parents, a.k.a. the "parent
involvement bill," was given a second consideration in the House
yesterday and then referred to the House Appropriations Committee. Our
next step is to contact members of the House Appropriations Committee
and get it on the agenda for consideration and reported out of
committee. After that, it can then be given a final consideration for
adoption by the House. (View the history of the bill immediately
below.) It has progressed a long way this session--let's not let it die
now. We're almost there! With some coaxing and persuasive
conversations, we can move this bill to adoption.

                                              Bill History

SB 143 By Senators RHOADES, GREENLEAF, LAVALLE, KASUNIC, C. WILLIAMS,
WOZNIAK, STOUT, KITCHEN, ERICKSON, REGOLA, BOSCOLA, STACK and COSTA.

Is there someone listed below on the House Appropriations Committee that
you can contact? The Appropriations Committee will analyze the "costs"
involved with the proposed legislation. You may want to remind
committee members that parent involvement is a research-based practice
that leads to student achievement and school improvement and is central
to requirements under No Child Left Behind. Under NCLB, each state is
also required to serve as a clearinghouse for best parental involvement
practices, for which this bill provides. Please remind them it is long
overdue. Thanks in advance for your action in moving this forward.

C copy this link below and you can obtain additional information,
including emails and phone numbers, for Representatives on the
Appropriations Committee.
