In my experience here in CH, people are extremely ambivalent about the
USA. On the one hand, most want to travel there or go back for another
trip. Some even live there part of each year. Of course, there are
exceptions. I had a big argument with an elderly gentleman while we
were on a cable car. He insisted the Bush was just like Hitler. The
folks in CH don't have much to envy in the USA except the wide open
spaces. On the other hand, people in most other countries do tend to
bite the hand that feeds them.

This isn't to say that there are not ugly Americans. Anyone who travels
much has seen Americans behave badly in foreign countries.
