Re:  Spanish Inquisition versus the Dangers of Islam

Note that one has to go back several hundred years to find a comparable 
example.  A better question is whether there is any contemporary religion  
that poses such a threat to nonbelievers (and to their own people).   

In Saudi Arabia, the standard issue high school textbooks state that if you 
research any crime, "you will find that a Jew was behind it."  A recent issue 
of a state supported Saudi newspaper claimed that Israel uses the blood of 
murdered Palestinian children in their baked goods.  

In my opinion Islam is being misused as a means to control the populace and 
to blame other parties, e.g. Israel and the U.S., for problems that are 
endemic to dictatorships--much like Hitler's scapegoating of the Jews in the 
Thirties.    However, there are some reasons for optimism.  Note that the 
young people in Iran are relatively pro-American and opposed to the Islamic 
dictatorship in that country.
