“The Vulnerable Internet of Everything”

 

Today everything is connected to the network.  And that means that
everything ... yes, everything ... is potentially hackable.  A significant
but not widely anticipated consequence is that within the next five years,
corporate America will have an entirely new scope of liability, obliged to
pay damages in tort or contract for failure to take reasonable steps to
provide cybersecurity.  More than damages for breaches, we can expect the
need to insure against failures in standards of care.  We explore why this
is so and what we can do about it.
