In writing about golf history, one thing has become very clear: the clubs we
join aren’t

just places to whack a ball around. Our clubs have meaning, and like
snowflakes, each

has its own personality. Our clubs are golf’s clans and communities and like
big pots of

cultural glue they connect us – to a game, certainly, but also, amazingly in
some cases,

to so much more than that.
