Hi Bert,

Had not heard of the Bradt Travel Guides. Found good info on the Switzerland guide you cited guide at site below

http://www.bradt-travelguides.com/details.asp?prodid=79

Just reading the index brought relief from the weather, which in Boston as well as NH has been snow, ice, and cold.

Take care,

Happy travels,

Dick Stewart

It's always nice to forget about New Hampshire snow, ice, and cold for a while and look through the Bradt Travel Guide- Switzerland Rail-Road-Lake by Anthony Lambert. It was first published in 1996.

It not only tells the reader how to "get there" but also includes interesting information on geography, architecture, museums, churches, etc.;the writer is also a knowledgeable fan of railroad lines and locomotives. "Sit on the right", he instructs to ensure you get the best view.

Here is a sample from the description of the Vevey-Les Pleiades line.

A journey not to be missed, climbing at almost alarming gradients to a terminus close to the summit of Les Pleiades. Sit on the right.

One of my fond memories of Vevey is of a wonderful fondue lunch with an assortment of local wines selected by the host. "Do not worry about the wine affecting you; if you drink the wine from the altitude at which the grape was grown, you can drink as much as you wish!" Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I know there are several Untourists who have this guide in their possession, and perhaps others might be prompted to conjure up memories of particularly nice travels to fill up a noticeable lack of recent postings.
