Voters in the heart of the Swiss Alps yesterday passed legislation banning naked hiking after dozens of mostly German nudists started rambling through their picturesque region.

By a show of hands citizens of Appenzell Inner Rhodes voted overwhelmingly at their traditional open-air annual assembly to impose a 200 Swiss franc fine on violators.

Reactions have shown that such nude appearances are perceived as "thoroughly disturbing and irritating", the government said.

Legislation is being prepared in a neighboring canton to criminalize "this shameless behavior".

Watch for this movement to become widespread and jeopardize the trip on the Grandmother's Walk for Untourists who prefer socks and hiking boots only (sunscreen not verboten).
