To all of you who answered my question about this hotel, my sincere  thanks.  
Yes it is the Hotel Colon which was particularly charming at the  time we 
visited.  We had a room on the plaza where a celebration was going  on and shows 
were being presented periodically during the day and evening, all  free and 
providing easy viewing from our balcony.
 
I'm always amazed at the collective wisdom of the Idyllchat bunch.   Thanks 
again.

We  stayed there back in '89 - great location and very nice hotel 19 years 
ago - I  assume it still is. Easy to walk everywhere from the hotel.
