[Idyllchat] Wearing a fanny pack in Paris

To take Bob's suggestion one step further, scan copies of all important documents that you might need while traveling and e-mail them to yourself before you leave home. Leave that message with attachements on your e-mail server. If the originals are lost while traveling, you can go to any place that offers Internet access and retrieve your message with the scanned documents attached. Documents saved this way are pretty much theft- and loss-proof.

Not precisely on the subject of fanny packs, but be sure to make multiple copies of your passport and carry copies everywhere. Unless you need the original for sure, leave it at your apartment. Also, if the original is lost, the copy is of great value in obtaining a new passport. Our grand daughter's passport was stolen in the airport at Zurich some years ago. She knew nothing of how or where it was obtained, and getting a replacement was much more difficult. Copies are cheap.

Bill,

I have used my fanny pack in Paris, and other pickpocket prone places but only for my camera, a map, a small package of Kleenex and a small bottle of Purel. Even with the camera, I am very careful as to where the zipper end is located. One time on a Prague metro, someone managed to get it partially unzipped before I caught it. As much as I would regret loosing my camera, it is no where the problem of loosing my credit card, ATM card or passport.

Your wife might consider what my wife does. She wears her money belt under her clothes in the back in the small of her back. Obviously, I am the one who handles getting to ready cash and credit card for day use from my money belt. Normally, you know well in advance when you are going to need your passport so she can retrieve it in an inconspicuous location before needing it. Extra cash, our extra credit and ATM cards are safe for her to carry in the money belt.

The bottom line is that I would never carry my cash, credit card, ATM card or passport in a zippered fanny pack in Paris or anywhere else except walking through a meadow with only cows around.

Eleanor hates wearing a money belt (or one that hanges from your neck under her blouse). She wants to wear a zippered fanny pack when we're in Paris.
I am against it at least for carrying cash, credit cards/debit cards and passports. We plan to use buses rather than the metro while in Paris.

Can anyone who has been to Paris give me advise regarding the safety of wearing a fanny pack. Maybe I should carry the passports and my credit cards in my neck (under-shirt) security pouch and leave Eleanor's copies of credit/debit card back in our apartment. Does anyone have any alternative suggestions?

Any advise would be appreciated.
