Thanks much Dick for the info on the Alps at Imax. We checked the Denver area for schedule, and sure
enough, it is playing now, and would not have known it if you had not written about it. We will be
heading there (60 mi. from here) soon.

Subject: [Idyllchat] The Alps (IMAX Film)

  Fellow Travelers,

A while back we were reminded about a new IMAX film entitled "The Alps." The film opened at the Mugar Omni Theater of the Boston Museum of Science (MOS) on Friday. On Sunday we took some kin to see the film, kin who accompanied us on a 2002 Heartland Untour. Everyone enjoyed the film. It's fabulous!

For those who may not know, the gist of the film concerns a climb of the North Face of the Eiger by John Harlin III. In part, the climb was made to make spiritual peace with his father, John II, who died on the Eiger in 1966 when John III was 9 years-old.

The film includes much more than the climb. You'll fly over and into the Alps, in particular, the mountains near Grindelwald and the Matterhorn in Zermatt. In fact, with the IMAX 3-D photography and its accordant sense of motion, you can reach out and touch the Matterhorn. There's also bit of geology on the formation of the Alps and much getting to know the Harlin family. In addition to the photography that places you smack in the middle of the Alps, the film is not without a dose of poignancy. You won't need a handkerchief, but your eyes might well up here and there, and you might even wipe away a tear.

To see at a glance what the film is about, you might go to the following MOS site. Those in the Boston area - there are a few of us - can scroll way down to see the show times at the MOS.
