Stefan, emailed us with some updated information, for anyone who wishes to travel to Nyon/Yvoire-- he very thoughtfully explored all possibilities.
Dear Jean,
Dear Fred
I haven't been to Nyon to this day, so I can't answer all your questions directly. I was just doing some research
and
these are my findings:
- the level difference between the train station and the landing pier is 35 meters (115 feet)
- the walking distance between the train station and the landing pier is 650 meters (0.4 mile)
- I can't see any stairs on street maps and aerial pictures
- the last third from the train station to the landing pier when descending from the old town to the lake seems
to be very steep
- when you bypass the old town on a main road, the descent seems to more evenly
- There is a taxi stand at the train station, the cost to get to the pier should be not more than 15 Francs
- There is a bus stop at the lakefront (same level than the pier, just 160 meters (520 feet) from the pier. The stop
is called 'Nyon, Rive'. You get there from the train station twice an hour by bus number 5 or 31
- the fastest way to travel from Meiringen to Nyon is via Bern, the journey thru the newly opened Loetschberg tunnel
via Visp takes about 20 minutes longer
I hope this information is helpful for you. If you have more questions, I will gladly try to answer them.
Greetings from rainy Switzerland,
Stefan
