[Idyllchat] Switzerland Heartland

We were on a Swiss Heartland/Ticino sampler late last September. Besides the
round trip to Zurich (we actually did this twice), we had to go from
Hasliburg to Locarno. The cost of the upgrade for our 5 long segments was
about the same as the upgrade to our SwissPass, so we upgraded the
SwissPass. The Heartland trains were not that crowded in 2nd class which I
guess is what you need to know, but the Ticino trains definitely were. We
were definitely happy to have the 1st class ticket on several occaisions in
Ticino or we would have been standing. Although, on the S1 line (Bellinzona
to Lugano and Chiasso), the trains were so new that the smell of the leather
seats in first class gave my wife a headache on one trip.

We planned on hiking the first day we were there. We spent an extra 4 days
in Zurich at the end. Because of this, I never used the luggage transfer
tags. I carried my bags with me to and from Zurich. Being in first class
gave me a little extra room to spread out. Especially on the Luzern to
Brünig leg of the trip where you are on the local trains.
