[Idyllchat] Single Travel in South Tuscany

I've been an Untour single (twice: Portugal and Vietnam) and also part of a group of five and six (Switzerland and Austria.) Each Untour has a single price, which, whilst obviously not as economical as with a group, is still reasonable. Untours is a great way to solo travel as you have the orientation and services available, but don't have to deal with constantly being with a group.

I've not been on the Tuscany South, but solo travel anywhere is not only a possibility but a downright pleasure to me. Three cheers for independence!

I’ve been looking at a South Tuscany Untour for Sept or Oct. Are these tours suitable for a single woman traveling alone? I’m
assuming there would be a single supplement fee? Has anyone on this chat list traveled as an “untour single?” What was your experience?

Or is there anyone who would welcome a traveling
companion – male or female – as it appears many of these accommodations come with more than one bedroom.

Appreciate any information – these tours sound great and I hope to find a way to participate. Thanks. Dede Ranahan

In the fall of 2006, my wife and I stayed at La Canonica which is where the Orfeo is one of the apartments. Although UnTours lists Orfeo as Buenconvento, that is not really where it is located. La Canonica is located on a hilltop along the road between Torrenieri and San Givanni d'Asso. It is closest to the village of Torrenieri, which has a small grocery (Co-op), a great Pizza restaurant, a coffee and chocolate shop, a tavern and little else. UnTours lists Orfeo of La Canonica at Buenconvento because Bienconvento is the nearest town. You will frequent Buenconvento often as it has a large grocery (Co-op), several nice restaurants, coffee shops, stores, etc. The nearest city is Siena where you'll go at least once. Montalcino, Pienza and Montepulciano are also close. While on our UnTour, we quickly befriended the other two groups of UnTourists, a couple and a group of four made up of parents in their 60s and their daughter and her husband in their 40s. The group of four stayed in Orfeo. All eight of us would frequently gather in the evenings, on the back porch of Orfeo to share our combined offerings of cheese, sausage and wine, in order to discuss our mutual adventures of the day. We had a wonderful time there - one night the hosts invited in about 20 locals and we had a dinner and dance in La Canonica's reception room. You will have a wonderful time. The setting of La Canonica is breathtakingly beautiful - like a picture postcard! My triplog is posted with UnTours at MailScanner has detected definite fraud in the website at "tinyurl.com". We are headed to South Tuscany this October with Untours. We are booked into an apartment called "Orfeo" in Buonconvento. If anyone has any information about this apartment, town, or region, it would be greatly appreciated. David Wayland
