We stayed in Montalcino last Sept/Oct. with Untours and had a fantastic time. I agree with the comments on going to Pienza (we drove there) and Siena (we took the train there from Buonconvento). Many other day trips are so close its amazing. The absolute highlight of our visit was a cooking class that we set up. Five of us prepared, cooked and ate a 5 course meal in the lovely home of a British transplant to Italy and a home grown Italian lady. It is something I absolutely will never forget doing - especially since we were all given copies of the receipes we made! But everything about the trip was great. Please take the time to read the archieves other Untours have written complete with pictures. Untourists love questions on places they've been. All the advice we received was right on. One very, very, very important thing - if you have not driven a stick shift very, very recently - practice, practice, practice here because you will need your
driving skill there!

Hi;
We were in Buonconvento in Oct. of 05, but did not stay at Orfeo. You will enjoy Buonconvento. It has excellent shopping and easy level streets. Restaurants we enjoyed there were: Percenna, and Ipoggioli. Also La Campagnia in Torrenieri, which is nearby. Be sure to go to Pienza, Murlo and Siena. We have also enjoyed a 2-3 hour trip to Talamone on the coast. And of course, there are lots of good restaurants and things to see and do in Montalcino. Enjoy!!!

We are headed to South Tuscany this October with Untours. We are booked into an apartment called "Orfeo" in Buonconvento. If anyone has any information about this apartment, town, or region, it would be greatly appreciated. David Wayland
