The BEST times are in August and September with July and the first  
half of October a close second. I assume that you want tree line or  
above hiking. May is usually too snowy at those levels, and June can  
be a real grab bag. Usually, the passes don't open until June's last  
week, but that can happen earlier. Even with passes open, there is no  
guarantee that the hiking paths are snow free.
