[Idyllchat] For music lovers who will visit Venice, Italy

Hi Belinda,

Looking at the weather in your Richmond (daughter Bev lives there also), my Norfolk, the Oregon daughter and Venice, I'll opt for going to Venice this week!

And - oh my!! You've stirred up some mighty fine recollections of my 2004 stay in Venice. That July, my two Idyllchatter friends and I went to a concert of the Interpreti Veneziani in the Chiesa San Vidal! I don't have the vocabulary to describe that magnificent event . All over Venice in the summer there are elaborate presentations of Vivaldi's music, complete with costumes and all the trappings - and costumed sellers of tickets in the large tourist areas. Great for those who want to see a "production". But for an outstanding concert of Vivaldi's music, it has to be with Interpreti in the San Vidal church. We were very fortunate to have violoncelloist Davide Amadio playing that night, and he puts his heart and soul into the music. These musicians are dressed like they should for such an outstanding concert - formal black and white.
If any of you will be in Venice this summer, you must go to one of their concerts, even if you are not much of a music lover ;-]

On a similar note, if you can go to a concert/recital in the Frari, please go. In 1999, my daughter Beverly and I enjoyed a concert of a visiting choir and organ music. The highlight for me was when the two pipe organs, (I think original to the church) that were opposite each other up in the loft and we were inbetween, played together.

BTW - speaking of formal, that same year we were waiting to see the bride and groom emerge from the Friari, the groomsmen were decorating the pavement, and the pigeons and a little girl were competing for the rice, when I looked down and noticed a young goodlooking groomsman in his tux, frilly cuffs and all - and sandals with no sox. I loved it!

Hearing a performance last night in Richmond of the Interpreti Veneziani Baroque Orchestra was a rich experience. I have always longed for a return trip to Venice. Now, Interpreti has given me a compelling reason to return: to hear them in performance again.Interpreti perform in Vivaldi's own church in Venice, San Vidal Church. They have over 60,000 subscribers to their season! The "exhuberance and brio" of their performances are mentioned in any review you read of them. One website that lists their 2008 performances through August ishttp://selectitaly.com/theater.php?product_id=36BelindaRichmond VA

I have not heard about such a pioneering life style for years...cooking over a stove is more challenging to me than going to school...imagine an open fire and pot hanging from a hook in the sky. Leigh in SC

Fellow Travelers,

After seven years of Windows 98 and dial-up, we've sprung for a new computer and high-speed internet. Three years ago, after 37 years in our house, we purchased automatic garage door openers. This year, we hope to buy our first stove as Joan has grown weary of cooking over an open fire.

This is just a test to verify that I can post with my new address. No reply needed as I'll know in seconds if it works, and I know what to do if it doesn't.

Happy travels,

Dick Stewart
