We spent one week in Venice last October and took a tour of La Fenice - we went to the operahouse during the day - warning - it is tough to find - get off at San Marco vaporetto stop and ask directions in one of the retail shops. We purchased tickets for the tour - hours are different each day but they will tell you schedule for next few days. It is absolutely worthwhile. We could not obtain opera tickets but did attend a piano recital - it was great to sit in that beautful hall and listen to great music.
Try to bring John Berendt's book, City of Fallen Angels, with you - it is all about the people of Venice with an emphasis on the fire that destroyed La Fenice in the 1990s.
