In Madrid, we were strolling with my sister- and brother-in-law down a pedestrian street where all the sidewalk cafes were busy with the dinner crowd when my brother-in-law stumbled, supposedly on a cobblestone. He threw out his arms to break his fall, and felt a hand try to slip into his pocket; the pickpocket had tripped him as a diversion. Since the pocket was fastened with a safety pin on the inside, the pickpocket was unsuccessful. The best part was that several of the male diners left their dinners and chased the man down the street! They didn't catch him, but it was nice that they tried.
