[Idyllchat] 5 days in Paris

Just to add confusion to the mix, we spent time in Paris, Provence and Normandy. By far the most impressive and memorable to us was Normandy. We had an excellent guided one day tour that provided the American overview of events that took place on these beaches.

  Donna,

I would agree with Joan and all the others. We spent three weeks in Paris and still didn't see it all. You want to get a good guidebook to Paris and you'll see that five days is just a taste.

Just to get out of the city, you could take the train/bus to Giverny for Monet's gardens one day or to Chartres for the cathedral (especially if Malcolm Miller is still doing his twice a day tours) but I can't recommend spending the time going to Normandy when you have Paris at your beck and call.

My friends and I are planning a trip to Provence this Sept. We are going to start off with 5 days in Paris first. We don't want to miss a thing but we don't want to overplan either. We are thinking of staying on the Left Bank. A day for the Louvre and a day at Versailles and a day for shopping I think are givens. Would a side trip to Normandy be possible? How about a trip to the champagne country? Anyone know of a "not so expensive'' hotel on the Left Bank?
