Harold,

By all means take the car. You can make your own schedule and see  
some things not on the tours. Just like an Idyll trip. Bayeux is a  
wonderful town and is easily walkable. If you like raw oysters, the  
Norman oysters are the best I have ever eaten. No red sauce, just  
some lemon juice with shallots in it.
