[Idyllchat] Hike above Lenk

Hi Mary,

It's Doris M! After your nice comments on my photos, I just had to pull out my journal and try to find what I could on the Lenk hike. I wish I had more specifics but we began and ended in Lenk. Here's what I wrote back in June of 2005.

We trained to Thun, Spiez, Zweissemen and finally Lenk today for our hike. Found the gondola up to the Leiterli and found lots of Swiss families out for their Sunday morning hike. We had planned a hike we had found in a hiking guide but decided to follow the villagers instead (everyone from grandparents to toddlers) on their walk toward a snow covered mountain view. The trail is all open on one side with lush green mountain meadows with little houses and huts scattered here and there. After a mile or less, we rounded yet another bend in the mostly level trail and found the perfect mountain vista for our picnic lunch.

By the time we were ready to head back onto the trail to do our originally planned hike, there were few Swiss left. When we started down "our" trail (wish I'd written down what it was - found it in a hiking book), we pretty much had the whole beautiful place to ourselves. The trail was a gentle downhill with open meadows and snow covered mountain views on all sides. Now THIS may be my favorite hike! Just when you think it can't get any prettier - it does!

We had thought this would be a relatively short hike but it just went on and on and we didn't mind a bit. After all the openness, the last part wound in and out of forest paths with views still coming. It ended with a walk down a gorge with rushing water and a trail down through some pretty houses into the pretty town of Lenk.

Lenk is a very undiscovered little village and I hope more people will discover the beauty of it and its beautiful hiking up on the Leiterlei...

  Adelboden to Lenk, or does that particular hike have to be done from Lenk?
