[Idyllchat] No fee Euros from ATMs and no fee credit charges in Italy

Perhaps the "out of order" and down time is unique to Venice. On this last trip, I saw several people trying to use machines that wouldn't complete a transaction. And these were local people! In the past I've been to enough out-of-order machines in Venice to make my decision to get my euros before I leave the states. You all are fortunate not to have this problem .

Over the last 10 years, I have used ATMs in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Scotland, and Iceland. I have not had a problem with ATMs not working except for once when a trunk line between the US and Europe went down. It was only down for a couple of hours. This is not bad for 10 trips over a period of 10 years. We had a harder time when on our first trip to Italy, our credit cards were being randomly declined. This was due to the security department at the bank questioning charges coming from Europe. Since then, we call the banks and let them know we will be in Europe before we leave. We haven't had a problem since. - Jay

Regarding Pete and Maggie Haggart's response to my posting "We too have Capital One - but I did not know that they had an ATM card ", you may have misunderstood me. My Capital-ONE card is a credit card, which I use because they do not tack on a foreign conversion fee as do most, if not all other credit card companies. For ATMs, I use a Charles-Schwab brokerage ATM card because the reimburse ALL fees incurred at ATM machines. By using these cards I get Euros from ATMs and make credit charges without any extra fees. Regarding Lynanne Guynn's comment "ATM ...some/many are out-of-order at any one time", that wasn't my experience in Tuscany - I never had a problem at an ATM and I used several in various cities, getting cash as needed._______________________________________________This message was sent by IdyllChat. To reply or send a new message, email to:IdyllChat at lists.untours.comVisit the IdyllChat archives:http://mailman.dca.net/pipermail/idyllchat/Search Idyllchat Archives for any subject at: http://search.dca.net/sites/untours/main.html>Read real Untourists' candid accounts of their Untours:> http://www.untours.com/triplogs.html To unsubscribe, change to digest delivery, ortemporarily pause delivery, visit:http://mailman.dca.net/mailman/listinfo/idyllchat
