[Idyllchat] No fee Euros from ATMs and no fee credit charges in
Italy

My experience has been the same as Jay's. Since 1998 we have used
ATMs in all of the same countries except Iceland but would add
England, Ireland, The Czech Republic and China. In only one case did
the ATM not work. That was a bank in some city in France, which I
don't recall now since it was ten years ago. In that case we noticed
that no one else was having any success with that ATM either so we
went a block down the street to another bank and their ATM worked
just fine.
As a comment on Terry Baraldi's note about operating hours. We have
never had that experience. However, I have to admit I have never paid
any attention either except when we land in Europe. That has always
been early morning and I have normally used an airport ATM with no
problem.
On other comments about ATM fees being levied by local banks. In
using ATMs over this past ten years we have never had any foreign
bank tack on a fee for a withdrawal. Our experience is that only US
banks seem to be prone to want to do that.
