[Idyllchat] Dollar conversion to euro

Before I went to Venice last summer, I went to my local BB&T bank and got all the euros I thought I'd need for my two months' stay there. The bank charged me $40 to do the conversion. I didn't need to worry about finding an ATM while there (some/many are out-of-order at any one time.), and didn't need to worry about using a debit or credit card, both of which can charge a conversion fee.
Not counting my housing, I (a single traveler) spent an average of 30 euros a day. Did not go to fancy restaurants, but to the local neighborhood trattoria, and since I had an apartment, did not have to eat all my meals out.
Did not have a car in Venice, and had a relatively inexpensive vaporetto pass that the locals get. Spent money at the grocery store, fill-up store, fresh fruit and veggie stands, weekly street markets (clothing, shoes, accessories, sports' goods, children's clothes, veggie and fruit stands, cheeses, meats, home-made preserved food, etc), souvenirs, stuff - clothes, watches mostly - for myself, the Bienalle ticket, etc. Did not go to any fancy, expensive shops.
If you will be in Italy for the first time, your expenses will, of course, be higher than mine, but this may give you a rough idea of costs.
