Hi -
Perhaps I shouldn¹t even be commenting, since I never drove to Perugiabut
the reason I haven¹t is that, when my wife and I were staying at the Villa
Casa Rossa, in Bruno, a couple of years ago (about 20 miles from Spoleto),
I heard nothing but bad things about how difficult parking around Perugia
was. This, when there was no festival at all. I already knew about difficult
parking from my experience driving down to Sienna. Even the parcheggias
(parking lots) around Sienna were full; also there were few signs that were
helpful.
I contrast this with Spoleto, where I always found parking on the street, at
the outskirts of town, within easy walking distance of the city. Both
Barbara and I loved that cityvery underappreciated, in our view. It is
small enough for you to walk most of it, but large enough to be a real city.
Not many tourists, and lots of fascinating destinations. There is a famous
(in Italy) music school for training opera singers, where we saw a
performance of La Boheme. It was the most passionate, rewarding performance
of the opera we ever heard.
