Linda:

Welcome to Untours and we hope welcome to Germany.

You have a several excellent choices or types of trips or where to stay.

There is the Castle tour or the Rhine river tour - or as you say a choice of sampler options.

We have taken the Rhineland tour and stayed at St. Goar. We have not done the Castle Tour but have heard lots of good things about it.

I am going to highly recommend the 2 week regular Rhineland Tour. I do that because I want you to get a real flavor for the country, its culture, its people, and all the other things that go with staying in a village in Germany for two weeks.

As I said - we stayed in St. Goar (the Christmas apartments) and found it to be an excellent home base for exploring the Rhine region and beyond. You can find a description of our trip by going to the Untour Café or clicking on the following link to go directly to our blog:

also take a look at my other German blog about a special place not 10 minutes from St. Goar

The two week trip allows you to get a better feel for the area. There are so many things to do up and down the river by boat or train that you will never run out of things to do. The boat and especially the train transportation is easy to use and operates on both sides of the river. St. Goar is a bit on the touristy side but provides a good market and places to eat, drink, and relax during your stay - plus a wonderful castle above the village.

So keep asking questions and check out what people have to say about Untouring in Germany. Haven't found an unhappy Untourist yet!!

My husband and I are planning our first trip to Germany next year. Has anyone gone on the Sampler tour or is the 2 week tour a better option? Any suggestions on the towns? or sights to see or things to do? We have never traveled outside of the US before so any advice is very welcome! Thanks!
