I'd like to join Janet in expressing my great appreciation for all the good suggestions and ideas this summer. One advantage to traveling in the fall has been learning from y'all! The mini-zippy pill packages are brilliant, and I also want to thank the woman who suggested buying Euros in bulk before leaving. That saved us a lot on ATM fees, and so far even a few bucks due to recent falling dollar values. I've even made an e-mail friend in Seattle and look forward to meeting her at the Paris airport as we head toward Pisa.

Congrats on learning some Italian, Janet. It's the one thing we should have done that we didn't; four days before departure we're reading ourselves to sleep at night from the Berlitz and Rick Steeves phrase books....ah, well. 

For others planning to visit Italy, I recommend "Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert. The "Eat" portion describes her 4 months in Italy, and is kind of a love song to the beauty and pleasures of that country.
