Barb,
  Definitely avoid the CT on the weekend if possible.  At the very least, don't go without a reservation.   We were there last year on Sat. Sept. 30 and thought it would be past the tourist season and we would do a Rick Steves  "drop in and inquire what's available".    Our experience makes a good story, but it wasn't funny at the time!
