[Idyllchat] Cost of travel

I agree with Janet about not worrying too much about the cost of a trip. I
took three grand kids with me to Europe this past summer for two months. I
haven't sat down and figured out the cost either as I don't really care. We
included a two week Untour at the castle and six weeks of independent travel.
Whatever it cost, it was worth every penny. We did some more outrageous
things like living on a houseboat in Amsterdam for a week. It was the same one
used by Samantha Brown on her "Passport to Europe" show.
Whatever the extra cost, it was for being able to sit up top every evening
and watch the sun set over the Amstel Canal as the kids waved at passing boats
and played cards.
The Euro didn't hurt us as badly as the Kroner used in Denmark. But even
there we only felt it most when we were staying in hotels and eating our meals
out. We rented a holiday cottage on Aero off the southern coast of Denmark
for a week and found our stay very reasonable. In Germany, we were always able
to find inexpensive places to eat and groceries for cooking in were not that
outrageous.
I have always said that the only thing I have ever spent money on that I
didn't, at some point, have regrets about was my travel (and I admit that even
included my children). I just returned from a trip to visit the grand kids
and took them a copy of photos of our trip. Listening to them talk about each
place, I know there will be no regrets for this trip either.
