People who travel should be aware of politics in another country to
some degree. It can affect your vacation.
Initiatives are brought to a vote by any citizen as long as they can
get a given number of people to sign a petition. That number varies
on where the initiative is to be effective, local, kantonal, or
national. They have a certain number of months to do this for it to
be valid.
Referenda are votes taken on legislation that is made into law by
people opposed to that law. Again there are a certain number of
signatures within a certain time frame to be obtained.
I did not look the numbers and times up tonight, but they are
available for any who wish to know by Google or like means. Also, I
am sure that Stefan has this burned into his memory.
