I just got back from our Untour in Switzerland, and let me preface this by
saying we are geeks. Between the four of us, we had 2 laptops, 5 cameras, 3
cell phones (1 set up to work internationally, 2 with local SIM cards),
headlamps with rechargeable batteries, etc.
With all this electronic gear, we were charging things every night and none
of it needed a voltage converter. Everything we brought us was rated for
100-220 volts and 50-60 MHz. We simply needed plug converters.

Whatever you are bringing, read the input ratings on it. If it says,
"100-240 volts, 50~60 MHz", then it will work in Europe. A voltage
converter will cost you $40-$60. A plug converter will cost you $12.

The only thing that never works right is a hair dryer. Because of this,
almost everywhere you go supplies one. They don't want you starting a fire
with your American hair dryer.

p.s. - I found a new kind of grounded plug (for me) in Switzerland. This had
the normal 2 round prongs, but also had a third round prong centered
horizontally, and slightly lower than center vertically. The old grounded
plug was a big round plug with the standard 2 round prongs and 2 contacts on
the top and bottom of the round plug part for the grounds. Our Untour house
came with a converter from the old EU grounded plug to the new EU grounded
plug, but I don't know if that's standard for Untours.
