Ed,

If you are happy with your old bank's ATM and credit card - stick  
with them! That is my opinion.  Since it has been awhile since you  
used your cards in Europe you might want to check with them to  
determine what their current fee structure is. A number of people  
have reported here about Capital One, so you probably know the  
answers for them. Today it seems that many banks are piling on  
exorbitant fees for ATM use so that might be worth your while to  
check on. In my opinion, ATM fees largely just determine one's  
strategy for withdrawing cash. e.g. in my case I do not encounter any  
ATM fee so we do not usually withdraw the maximum that we could each  
time. If the ATM fee is per transaction, you might want to withdraw  
your daily limit each time. Of course if the fee is based on a  
percentage, it really wouldn't matter.

As irritating as all these fees are, in the big picture of the cost  
of a European trip, especially now with the USD in the tank, they  
aren't really very significant.
