Lynanne,
We were in Leiden with Untours in summer '98 and, at that time (and probably still), there was a bus about half a block from the Untour apts that one could take to the train station and everywhere else. Holland's train system is fantastic and most of the city/town railroad stations are conveniently located with local buses/trams nearby if you want to use them instead of walking about. Even Amsterdam was very easy to get around using public transport and it's all included with your train pass.
We went to all the major towns/cities in Holland on day trips and never felt we missed seeing something because we were only using public transport. The Leiden station office will print out any itinerary you want and, though we were often skeptical about a two minute connection in a burg, it happened perfectly. Amazing and wonderful!
Ann
