Cornelia,

Be careful what you wish for, you might get it.

Yes, I have nearly 70 television channels to
choose among, but I'm on the verge of cancelling
the whole lot. In the past week, Comcast has
re-configured our slate of channels, removing the
Hallmark channel unless we rent or buy a
converter. In its place--let's here some
cheering--we have our sixth sports channel. Like
you, I do enjoy watching baseball (in my case the
Seattle Mariners) as well as any games involving
our local university (Oregon State, where Jacoby
Ellsbury played before he joined the Red Sox).
But I groan loudly when I find yet another poker
game, a rodeo, or skateboarding.

The quality of programming from network
television is so low that we seldom watch it at
all. It must be a sign of our aging that we
prefer PBS, Nick at Nite, and TVLand. Andy
Griffith and Opie might be a bit too innocent for
our times, but I'll take that world over that
portrayed in "Two and Half Men."

I guess we most often want what we don't have. Are we humans not amazing?

Grüßen aus Amerika, Art Bervin
