It's great to be a winner, isn't it! For all of us "older guys" we can push back the memories of Buckner, Dent, Don Buddin, Dick Grenert, Clyde Vollmer, Pumpsie Green feel a little bit more confident that the Pats will not somehow kick another away. Still have the nervous feelings at the end, unless it's 53-0 with three seconds left.
I am impressed with the Swiss adventures of Robert Miller, and I hope he was the gent I met in Meiringen in 2003 when we talked about hiking. We had hoped to be able to do the Eiger Trail, and it opened the day before we were able to do it. If you like a physical challenge, start from Grindelwald (maybe on the train!) and end up at Kleine Sheidegg; otherwise, hike from Mannlichen to KS, hike to the start or TAKE THE TRAIN. Great walk!
I have to admit that I was dubious about the value of Planplaten to Kaserstatt, but is was wonderful. We met two Swiss guys who told us to look at hiking in Pategonia- better than Switzerland!
Always have passed up the Breinzerhorn train trip but will reconsider, I think.
Have more people trained to Brienz, taken the steamer to Giessbach Falls, and traipsed to Iseltwald for a great lunch of Brienzersee fish, parsley potatoes, veggies, and a glass or two of fendant? Tired? Hop on the steamer and return to Brienz or on to Interlaken for some groceries at the COOP; then a noisy ride back to Meiringen or wherever.
We have really enjoyed the hike from Bettmerhorn to see the glacier and take some lift down to the Rhone valley. In 2003 there was a half marathon from the valley floor to Bettmerhorn: a lot of tired walkers at the end.
So to the New Engand fans who have read this far, good luck tomorrow for the Pats. I am embarking on a trip to Pinehurst NC for some golf with two bros-in-law and a son.
Is that St. Bernard dog still at the train station in Kleine Scheidegg posing for group photos??
