I will echo what so many other have said about this topic: Take the digital. Many of us seem to have very nice SLRs but have abandoned them in favor of the digitals. The reason I've done that is because (at my very wise wife's urging) I've given up trying to be a serious photographer and simply take snapshots. I missed too much of the rest of the vacation experience waiting for the perfect light to illuminate a church steeple or a mountain top. The quick picture of one of the kids laughing or even a street scene we thought intriguing have turned out to be worth so much more. The small digital cameras make those shots much more easy to come by. The newest feature in digital cameras is just not the mega mega pixels but the ability to take pictures in wide screen (16:9) format and then display them on the HDTV. What a show that will make when we get home!

Last minute considerations before our Untour to Austria. We are having a debate over which is more practical to take: my canon rebel, a digital, or throw-aways. Would appreciate any advice, suggestions and experiences from all of you.
