[Idyllchat] Hotels in Florence

We went in 2002, and stayed at another Rick Steves recommendation...La Scaletta, on the 3rd floor of an old palazzo.( it does require a ride on a quirky old elevator...luggage may have to go up in shifts). It is on the quieter Altrarno side (across the Arno), close to the Ponte Vecchio, and backs up to the Pitti Palace and the Boboli Gardens. It has a rooftop deck that gives a spectacular 360 view of the city, and of the hills beyond.
However, I know that the management has changed hands since then, so I can't speak to the service. Also it has increased a bit in price (140 Euro for a double).
But it can't be beat for location and a view that made me cry! We will probably return there next year.
P.S. They took care of making our reservations for the Ufizzi. I think that most of the family run and smaller hotels will do that for their guests.

Hello to all you "been there-done that" Untourists,
Thanks for so much information on South Tuscany Untour and here's another question.
Our tour 9/26 - 10/10, we decided to spend our last two nights in Florence.
Looking for recommendations on a hotel - Untours offers to make reservations for us at 3
(hotels Pendini/Basilea/Ritz) or several we can make on our own. Some include breakfast but since scheduled departure time is 7:40 a.m., not sure that matters.
Transportation to the airport in Florence - are the taxis reliable to get us there that early
Museums in Florence - did anyone make reservations online before leaving US? How did it work for you?
Thanks again,
Janet
