[Idyllchat] Sports venues in Europe

Europeans do take their football very seriously.
During my year in Denmark, I watched large groups
of supporters marching from city center
Copenhagen out to the sports field for a match
with Ireland or Norway. More than a few
supporters were already well lubricated with
generous dollops of Tuborg beer. I never heard
of any incidents, but the potential was there.

In 1992 my wife and I spent a few days in
Göteborg (Gothenburg) while I was on a study
leave from my college. About six weeks later
German and Swedish partisans at the European Cup
matches had a major skirmish on streets we had
walked not so long before.

I wouldn't want to generalize from such limited
experience, but travelers should first be
cautious, then enjoy a match.
