[Idyllchat] Hotels in Florence

Hi, Janet,

My husband and I just returned from a great Tuscany North Untour (our fifth
Untour trip) and spent two nights in Florence where I revisited the great
city where I lived for a while years ago. We stayed at The Ritz Hotel, one
of those recommended by Untours, Frommer's and Rick Steves. I booked through
Travel Hero but could have booked directly with the hotel online. I got a
promotional rate of 130 Euro a night which was a bargain. The rate included
breakfast which was quite a spread: rolls, ham, cheese, sweet rolls, yogurt,
three kinds of cereal, fresh fruit, juice, etc. The hotel is lovely, the
location is perfect (we had a view of the Arno), the staff is very friendly
and helpful. Before we left home, I emailed the hotel with a request for
reservations to the Uffizi and they scheduled a time for us to go there.
Staffers recommended restaurants and provided a city map for us. The Ritz
also has Internet access.

The only downside was that the main street between the hotel and the Arno
has heavy traffic that made our room noisy. The hotel is equipped with
noise-reducing window covers that we pulled down at night. If you have a
river-facing room, I recommend using earplugs as well for a good night's
sleep.

Other Untourists told us that the Pendini, owned by the same family that
owns The Ritz, is very nice and is in a good location.

Have a great vacation!
