[Idyllchat] Reasonable hotel in Edinburgh

Was just in Edinburgh over Thanksgiving weekend. I can't help you out with
the hotel, but, I just want to give you a heads up. I would look at a menu
or a price tag and see a price that looked about the same as home. 1.70 for
a large cup of coffee. 10 - 15 for an entree. Then the back of your brain
goes, "Hold On, this is in pounds!" That 1.70 cup of coffee is actually over
$3. I found a lot of thing priced in pounds about what you would pay for
them in dollars in the US. If you don't keep reminding yourself that it's
almost $2 to the pound, you could spend a lot of money very quickly without
even realizing it.
A fun thing about money, Scotland has its own bank notes. The notes are
pounds sterling and valid anywhere in the UK, but they are different than in
England. On top of that, the notes are printed by the different banking
institutions in Scotland and each has its own designs. The basic format is
the same, but the images are all different. It's like the different state
quarters in the US, or the different coin designs from the Euro countries.
Some areas in England are sometimes reluctant to accept Scottish bank notes
even though they are legal tender.
