We have also, twice, stayed at a hotel on the Cartwright Gardens. This one
is the Crescent Hotel just a few doors down from the previously mentioned
Harlingford Hotel
.

Looking at both web sites it seems the Harlingford is a couple of pounds
costlier than the Crescent and may be updated. Our stay at the Crescent
certainly suited our needs in the late 80's and early 90's. The rooms are small but
adequate. The included breakfasts are wonderful and enjoyed in the breakfast
room as quiet classical music plays in the background.

The same location points addressed in Joan's notes prevail here as both
hotels are located in the same large crescent of buildings (that appear to one)
across from the Cartwright Gardens where many tennis courts are located should
wish to lob a few. The entire location is very quiet.

Looking back over notes of 1992 I giggle at the one that indicates that we
stopped at the Russell Hotel for a glass of wine for my husband and a sherry
for me with a typical bar dish of nibbles. We were appalled at the bill which
came to $10.87 tip included at the '92 conversion rates. I am sure that would
be considered a very low tab by today's standards. Even living in Nevada,
where booze is pretty cheap, this price would be considered almost a "give
away" today. Whatever, do stop there for a drink and to admire their marble lobby.

Keep those dreams alive,

Nina
