I would most heartily recommend St. Margaret's. We stayed there a week in 2004 and loved it. Location is convenient and the staff is excellent. When we left for home leaving our passports in the hotel safe the desk clerk literally ran the two blocks to the Russell Square tube stop to catch up with us. And Joan is right, it is a real neighborhood and you become attached to it. I became extremely angry and saddened when one of those terrorist bombs went off in our neighborhood.

Reasonable is no longer relevant in London John! However, our favorite, great location is The Harlingford Hotel. You can use Russell Square, Euston or Kings Cross for the tube. And of course for days "out", Kings Cross and Euston are great. Excellent breakfast, french press coffee, full English breakfast cooked to order--but no lifts. Rooms and bathrooms are small. It is right across from Cartwright Gardens, and relatively near the British Museum. It's located In a real neighborhood. A double is currently 99 pounds--not too bad considering the exchange. Check out the amenities and other rates at http://harlingfordhotel.com

Know other Untourist have favorites as well. Someone mentioned St. Margaret's, and Scala House is outstanding if you are staying longer than a week.

Hi Fellow Untourists -

This time I'm in need of some reasonable, centrally located lodging in London that has made a good impression on you. Of course, price matters. This isn't the summer for an Untour for me, but I'm daydreaming of my next opportunity!

Happy Trails to you all,
Sandy in Albany
