Chris, You don't need a raclette grill. You can achieve a delicious meal by broiling slices of raclette cheese until bubbly (on oven-table individual portion sizzle dishes) and serving it with a bowl of boiled new potatoes and salad, pickles too if you like. We have it every two months or so and my husband is delighted as if it were the first time. Yum, Bobbie

Yes, we loved the rosti too. I think we found that you could get packages at
the grocery store to cook at home. (It's been almost 15 years since we were there.)
We had raclette twice - once at the home of a friend who lives in Geneva and
once at the alphorn festival. Both were wonderful, and we've considered buying
raclette grills here at home (but they're so expensive!)
I think our favorite restaurant dish was the alpine noodles at the Bahnhof restaurant
in Lungern. I'd be interested to hear if they still serve those, and if they're still good,
after all these years.
Chris

Since there is a lull in the Idyllchat traffic lately, perhaps we can begin a new thread.
Jan's favorite food in Switzerland is Rosti, and she has fallen in love with the vegetable Rosti. The only place we have found it (that we know how to return to) is at the Brunig Hotel in Hergiswil. Compared to most restaurants which offer only one or two types, they have a large Rosti menu. Does anyone know of other places that offer a large menu of Rosti dishes?
My favorite is Raclette, and I remember years ago that the Bahnhofli in Lungern had a wide selection of Raclette plates, with various meats, etc. I don't think that is true any longer. Does anyone know of such a menu at any other restaurant?
We'd also be interested in hearing about anyone's favorite dishes at special restaurants, reasonably priced, of course.
Brian and Jan Cooley.
