In Rome, we stayed at the Hotel Rex which was about 6 blocks from the train
station. As with many hotels in Rome, it is a converted villa and the rooms
are all completely different. Our group had 3 rooms. One was spacious, one
was average sized, and the room my wife and I had was barely bigger than the
bed. We did, however, have the largest bathroom.

It was nice, but I can't tell you how much it cost because it was part of a
self-guided tourn This was also 7 years ago. All the hotels we stayed at on
that trip were within walking distance of the train stations.

Rome - Hotel Rex
Florence - Hotel Londra
Venice - Hotel Bellini
Milan - Doria Grand Hotel

The second time we were in Florence we stayed at the Westin Grand Hotel
which was only reasonable because we were traveling with an employee of
Starwood Hotels. If you can afford it, I recommend it, but it's not cheap.
Gotta love those employee discounts.
