Pat:  Try the Hotel Muguet which is straight north just a  few blocks 
going toward the Invalides complex.  The Muguet is a small 2-star hotel 
that I have used for many years off and on and it is ideally located, on 
a quiet street off the main boulevards but between two metro stations 
and close to the Rue Cler neighborhood of Rick Steves' fame.

doesn't extend quite far enough south to see exactly where Gare 
Montparnasse is, but if you go to the www.viamichelin.com site you can 
print out the section between the hotel and Montparnasse.
