[Idyllchat] day trips from Paris

I wonder if any of you have any advice on day trips to Reims for 
champagne tasting, or to Rouen.
I know there are several companies that do trips for champagne tasting, 
but we're thinking of going on our own.
Any experiences or recommendations?
And what about Rouen?  We're interested in seeing the cathedral.
