Marcia,

Nafplio is a great base from which to explore the Peloponnese peninsula.
Not only that, but old Nafplio is a delight. The narrow streets are nestled
between the bay with the small fort (the Bourtzi) on one side and the huge
fortress of the Palamidi looming above on the other. It is illuminated at
night. We were told that there are 999 steps leading up from Nafplio to the
Palamidi. We didn't count. The view from above is terrific. We had meals
at a number of the tavernas in Nafplio (e.g., Kastro Karima, O Vasilis and,
of course, Zorbas). An Italian gelateria was a pleasant surprise.

There are two weekly markets; one in old town and one in new town.

Our day trips included:

Epidaurus - sitting in the amphitheatre and enjoying the impromptu
demonstrations of its wonderful acoustics

Cruise to the island of Hydra

   The ruins of Mycenae

Monemvasia - the "Gibralter of Greece"

   Ancient Olympia

   Ancient Corinth

   The ruins of Mystras

We were there In April and the weather was very nice.

Enjoy!

We are going to Nafplio in late April. We would appreciate any information
of what to do and see - must sees- as well as special restaurants, shops,
and so on that those of you who have done the Greek Untour can suggest. Any
and all ideas will be appreciated.

Many thanks

Marcia
