Dear Joan,
Good to hear that you have arrived safe and sound back home!
I quote from the website of the Swiss Federal Customs Administration (http://tinyurl.com/2dgvmm):
(...) Gifts sent by private persons resident abroad to private persons in Switzerland are tax free up to a value of SFr. 100 (...)
But of course it has to be declared accordingly.
Warm regards from Olten, Switzerland
Stefan

If anyone has any first hand experience mailing packages back to Switzerland I would appreciate feedback. I am planning to mail a package of flannel fabric pieces to a Swiss friend. I have the Customs Declaration form which I would designate as a gift and value under $50. Also mailing a package containing costume jewelry (also under $50.).
Under no circumstances do I want my friend(s) to pay any duty. So, I await the collective knowledge of the Idyll community. Cheers. Joan.
P. S. Just returned from four weeks in the Heartland. It was glorious as usual. More humid than usual, few thunderstorms, but no lost hiking days.
