This may be away from the principal subject but for what it is worth, I refused CDW coverage in England a few years ago and had an accident involving the two left wheels on the rental car.  It required the replacement of the two tires and and the wheels.  My Visa card covered the whole thing no questions asked.  And I was on my way again within 24 hours.  Viva la Visa.
